An Overview of the Student Affairs in the School of Physics and Material Science

The School of Physics and Material Science of Nanchang University was established in January 2022 by merging the School of Material Science and Engineering with the Department of Physics of the School of Science. The newly formed college currently has over 2200 undergraduate and postgraduate students. And it has a team of 16 personnel dedicated to the work of student affairs, including 8 full-time counselors (2 for postgraduates) and 8 part-time counselors.

Adhering to a student-centered approach, with more attention and resources to the students from the administrative and ideological-political leadership and the management and service personnel, the college has built a strong work team led by academicians of CAS dedicated to students’ ideological and political education.

In recent years, taking advantage of the “first-class discipline”, we have carried out the management of student affairs innovatively. With "dedication and first-class service” as our motto, the scientific research spirit of "more light, less heat” as our guidance, the "three loves”("love the job, love the school, love the students”) as our motivation, and the "entrepreneurship and innovativeness of college students” as the basis, combining the characteristics of our majors and disciplines, we have created a brand for our ideological and political work of student affairs, which is named "Party building+ 'Blue Garden' community collaborative education”. By empowering the student apartments and integrating education resources, projects, and functions, we have been carrying out the "four selfs education"(self-confidence, self-awareness, self-management, and self-improvement) and building a new model of comprehensive management and education in student communities, integrating the ideological and political education into moral education, knowledge learning and skill training. We aim to cultivate high-quality graduates with comprehensive moral, intellectual, physical, aesthetic, and labor development throughout the entire process of college education.
